MEMORANDUM

Governor Quinn and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the state of Illinois to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 31 to February 3, 2011.

State and Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the snowstorm in the county of DeKalb.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Note that Section 13-5 of the Property Tax Code of the State of Illinois requires the following action by your office when a disaster proclamation is made:

“…the chief county asssessment officer, board of review shall, upon application by the property owner, make a reassessment of any taxable property in the county which was substantially damaged by the disaster….

In the reassessment, the value of the property shall be determined as of the date of declarations of the county as a major disaster area.”

FEMA does not endorse any non-government websites, companies or applications.

FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.

The form PTAX-245, Disaster Area Application for Reassessment is available online or at the DeKalb County Chief County Assessment Office.
