What is your County Doing?

What Facilities Manager Ken Campbell has accomplished:

2003:  Converted printing and copying paper to 30% recycled paper

2006:  Changed all light fixtures in the Public Safety Building to 80 Watt fluorescents

2007:  Switched all washroom products to 100% recycled products.

  • Changed all light bulbs in the 2nd and 3rd floor courtrooms of the Courthouse to

  • 13 W compact fluorescents (this saved 4,512 Watt/hour in one courtroom alone!)

  • Installed energy management systems in County buildings that turn down thermostats on weekends and evenings.

  • Landscaping with energy savings in mind:  Planted trees in strategic areas that will shade building.

Result:

Considerable electrical savings

605 lbs less of CO2/month

0.034 lbs of particulates/month

bulbs produce less heat, so reduced the summer Air Conditioning demand

2008:  Plan to replace light switches with motion/sound detection switches that will turn off lights in rooms when no one is present.
