The program investigates public health nuisances in unincorporated areas of the county. Investigations may be related to open-burning, weeds, improper storage and disposal of garbage, and pest control (rodent & mosquito).
Complaints regarding public health issues are investigated on a priority basis. If we cannot help you, we will refer you to other resources.
The inspector investigates complaints when contact information (name and phone number) is provided. Complainant information will not be released to others unless required by law in court action. A complainant may call to confirm the status of an investigation.
The program enforces applicable local and state laws pertaining to nuisances.

The program inspects all tanning establishments in DeKalb County to ensure that they follow the guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
All public tanning facilities are inspected for general cleanliness. Tanning beds and eye-wear must be sanitized. The facility and all items given to customers must be clean and safe. Tanning facilities must keep accurate client records and have safety information available regarding exposure to ultraviolet light. Employees at the facilities must provide proof of training with equipment to help ensure safe use of tanning beds.

BODY ART ESTABLISHMENTS
The program inspects all body art establishments in DeKalb County to ensure that they follow the guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Body art establishments are businesses that provide tattoo and piercing services. Health inspectors check for sanitary conditions, assure compliance with Illinois age requirements, and test the artist’s knowledge of sanitation and bloodborne pathogens.
