Keslinger
Road Tower Site
Jim Feyerherm
reported on the various potential tower sites.
1. The
former Bell Telephone Tower on South Seventh Street in DeKalb is pending a sale,
and needs a new paint job, which would be prohibitive for the Board to pay for.
As far as renting it, Feyerherm said he couldn’t determine whom to
contact regarding it. Brent Tillman said that he knew a person whom had
just dealt on a Bell tower, and would put Feyerherm in touch with him.
2. Route
23 south of Keslinger Road – This tower is also in the process of being sold.
The current owners have not responded to Feyerherm.
3. Tower
Road south of Perry Road - Feyerherm believes this tower is located too
far south and would have trouble reaching the Kirkland and Genoa tower.
4. The
new DeKalb County Sheriff's Police tower in Sycamore - This tower will be 300’
tall and is expected to be installed this spring. The height is good and there
wouldn’t be any rental costs.
5. NIU
radio tower – NIU has not responded.
6. Keslinger
Road tower – It is of good height, centrally located in the county, but the
costs seem excessive.
Feyerherm
said that although he is concerned about the
immediate problems with the Fire radio, it might be more fiscally responsible to
wait until the DeKalb County Sheriff's Police tower is built. Suppeland
agreed that it would be better to wait, than pay the high fees for the Keslinger
Road site. Bowman suggested that the sites be ranked to help the Board
determine which are the most feasible. Feyerherm said he could do that.
Olson appointed Pettit and Brent Tillman to a committee,
to work with Feyerherm and report back at the next Board meeting.
Other Radio
Sites
1. Genoa
water tower – Feyerherm said that the work should begin on the week of February
14th. They will be installing the 4’ dish, replacing the 2’ dish.
2. Sycamore
tower – Replacing the 2’ dish with the 4’ dish has been put on hold until the
DeKalb County Sheriff's Police erects their new tower.
Feyerherm reported that
we do not have any spare power amplifiers. They are original equipment and
could go any time. He said they are currently on sale until the end of May, and
could get the 7 we would need for replacement for $2200, a significant savings.
A motion was made by Bowman to authorize
the purchase of seven power amplifiers for $2200. Riddle seconded.
There was no further discussion. The motion passed unanimously.
There was a discussion regarding the printers in
the local Fire Departments. Since all of the Departments are dispatched and in
radio contact with a PSAP, the question of need came up. Since the printers
also require a dedicated telephone line, the monthly costs are high. Russell
and Riddle said they would bring it up at the next DeKalb County
Fireman’s Association and get the opinions of the users.
