The meeting started at 7:00 with
President Rich Joslin presiding. There were 10 members in attendance.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and one correction was made. The ending time for the job fair
is 1:00 not 11:00. Frank Beierlotzer made the motion to accept the amended
minutes and this was seconded by Edd DeJonghe. The minutes were approved.
The finance report was read by
Treasurer John Davis and we have 1992.57 in the fund. Frank Beierlotzer made
the motion to accept the treasurer’s report and this was seconded by Edd
Dejonghe. The report was approved.
Correspondence, we had an audit
by DeKalb County and there was much discussion on the audit.
Superintendent’s report, Herb
Holderman explained that our poverty level for payments is 170% of the poverty
level. He also explained how the payments are made and how much is paid out.
Herb also presented us with his monthly report which was read. DeKalb VAC paid
out $1550 in financial assistance to needy vets.
Committee reports, there are no
changes in the vet fair and the mailings will go out at the end of the week.
Constitution and by-laws were
discussed. There are some changes to be made to the by-laws and the changes
will be sent to the members that were not present.
Public relations, everybody is
invited to the mayor’s breakfast and it was discussed that DCVAC should be on
the list as a co-sponsor. Edd Dejonghe made this motion and this was seconded
by John Duback.
Unfinished business, plans for
the new building were discussed again, and there is a possibility that there
will be a second floor. Ground breaking will be soon.
The handbooks are still being
rewritten.
The new hire was talked about,
and Herb said that for the first six months it will be mostly book work. Going
to school and getting accredited does not get the new hire the hands on
experience that he or she needs, so a training manual was discussed and a study
plan must be presented to the new hire so that they know what to expect.
We discussed a van for the
commission, and at this point a minivan will do us for now. Later on, we will
probably need a bigger van with a wheel chair lift. Herb will be checking out
the price of vans and whether it will be better to buy or lease. Frank
Beierlotzer made the motion that a committee consisting of Steve Walz, Mike
Boorsma, and Rich Joslin will assist Herb Holderman in the decision. This was
seconded by Edd DeJonghe and the motion passed.
There was no new business, and at
8:20 a motion to adjourn was made by Edd Dejonghe and was seconded by Frank
Beierlotzer. The motion was approved.
Respectfully Submitted,
Steve Walz, Secretary
