Minutes of the
Forest Preserve Committee
April 16, 2002

The DeKalb County Forest Preserve Committee met Tuesday ,
April 16, 2002 at the enclosed shelter at Afton Forest Preserve, at 6:00 p.m.
Vice-Chairman Mr. Guehler called the meeting to order with Mr. Dlabal, Mr.
Haines, Mr. McLaughlin, and Mr. Sands present. Mr. Lyle, Mr. Morreale and Mr.
Simonson were absent. Mr. Terry Hannan was also in attendance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Moved by Mr. Haines, seconded by Mr. Dlabal, and it was
carried unanimously with a voice vote to approve the minutes for March.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Moved by Mr. Dlabal, seconded by Mr. Sands, and it was
carried unanimously with a voice vote to approve the agenda.
GENERAL DISCUSSION
Mr. Hannan stated that the Forest Preserve staff has been
busy with general maintenance of building and grounds, road grading, trail
maintenance, finishing the spring prairie burns and started mowing at Afton
today. Mr. Hannan stated that the Park Manager from MacQueen Forest Preserve
had seen a bald eagle along the Kishwaukee River in the forest preserve for a
few days. Mr. Hannan also told the Committee that Pete Olsen, local birder and
N.I.U. employee, had seen a golden eagle at Wilkinson/Renwick Marsh along with
33 other species of birds last Wednesday.
Mr. Guehler stated that he has been working with a Boy
Scout Troop in the Sandwich/Somonauk area for volunteer work to be done at
some of the southern DeKalb County Forest Preserves.
Mr. Hannan informed the Committee that National Volunteer
Week is April 21-27th, the N.R.E.C. would be sponsoring an Appreciation Chili
Supper/Information Fair on Wednesday, April 24th, at 6:00 p.m. in
the Natural Resource Center in Russell Woods. The invitation is enclosed for
the Committee members in the March Committee packet.
Moved by Mr. McLaughin, seconded by Mr. Sands, it was
carried unanimously by a roll call vote to go into executive session for the
purpose of land acquisition.
FY 2001 AUDIT DISCUSSION
Mr. Hannan asked the Committee if anyone had questions
about the 2001 audit for the Forest Preserve District that each member
had reviewed. No Committee member had questions at this time. Mr.
Dlabal stated that the audit looks better each year.
ADJOURNMENT
Moved by Mr. Dlabal, seconded by Mr. McLaughlin, and it was
carried unanimously by voice vote to adjourn the meeting.
