Rehab & Nursing Center

Volunteering

Home-RNC

We are blessed with an incredible amount of community involvement in the forms of civic groups, schools, and talented individuals who provide our facility with additional entertainment and social opportunities. A point of nostalgia is our Ice Cream Parlor for the enjoyment and pleasure of our residents, families, and visitors.

Each year volunteers donate over           hours in service to our senior citizens!

What is DCRNCA ?

The DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center Auxiliary is a group of dues paying people (both men and women) who are willing to give some of their time to help others.

What is the purpose ?

The Auxiliary’s purpose is to help make the lives of the Nursing Home residents more comfortable and more pleasant by:

  1. Giving time to work with residents and staff in areas where helping hands are needed.

  2. Helping raise monies to purchase needed equipment for home use.

  3. Contributing hand made or new and used items that would be suitable for use in the Shop or Cart.

What do members do ?

Members have an opportunity to work regularly at specific times weekly, biweekly or monthly in some of the following areas:

  1. Activities (crafts, games, etc.)

  2. Peddler Shop and/or Peddler Cart

  3. One-to-one visiting

  4. Writing letters for residents

  5. Reading to residents

  6. Transport residents to doctor on VAC

  7. Helping feed a resident

  8. Support the Auxiliary simply by being a dues-paying member

  9. Attending Board meetings when possible, but be sure to attend general meetings

  10. How does one become a member?

When does the Auxiliary meet ?

The Auxiliary meets at 1:30 p.m. at the Nursing Home semi-annually on the last Thursday of May and October.

The Auxiliary Board meets at the Nursing Home at 1:30 p.m. the second Monday of June, August, October, December, February, and April. All members of the Auxiliary are invited to attend Board Meeting if they wish to do so.

Special Auxiliary Projects

Peddler Shop: The Auxiliary sponsors a small shop just off the main lobby area. Small items are sold to residents and guests.

Peddler Cart: A cart holding items which appeal to wants or needs of residents is taken to each corridor on a regular basis. This serves those who are unable to go to the Shop.

Over the years the Auxiliary has been able to provide the Home with many items which could not be included in the Home’s budget. The latest contribution in 2001 was a canopy for the Memory Path Courtyard to provide shade for residents during the hot summer days.

In 2002 the Auxiliary will have a "Bakeless Bake Sale" as its main money making project.
