FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                    August 26, 2009

DeKalb County Treasurer Christine J. Johnson would like to remind taxpayers that, "The second installment of real estate taxes is due Friday, September 4, 2009."  Taxes may be paid at most county banks, by mail, or in person at the Treasurer's Office at the DeKalb County Administration Building, 110 East Sycamore Street in Sycamore from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for the Labor Day holiday.

If you mail your payment, it must be postmarked on or before September 4, 2009.

It is strongly recommended that you take your mail payment into the post office to have it hand cancelled.  The stub on the top of your tax bill should accompany your payment.  Please put your parcel number on your check to insure proper credit.

Due to the growing number of taxpayers interested in the service, the Treasurer’s Office now accepts tax payments via E-pay using Master Card, American Express and Discover Card.  “We are very pleased to be able to offer our taxpayers the convenience of charging their real estate taxes.  Over the years, we have received many requests for this payment option, and are glad to be able to provide it,” said Johnson.

Taxpayers can also pay with their Discover Card in person at the Treasurer’s office.  In addition, taxpayers have the option of charging their taxes to their Discover Card by mail.  The form on the reverse side of the tax bill should be completed and returned with the installment stubs the taxpayer wishes to pay.  Please note that a convenience fee will be added for those wishing to charge their real estate taxes on a credit card. “Nearly $530,000 in taxes have been charged to credit cards this year, and I anticipate that figure will be more than $750,000.00 by year’s end.” says Johnson.

Another payment option that has been met with enthusiasm is the ability to pay taxes online with a direct debit from the taxpayer’s bank account through SameDayPay.  This year’s SameDayPay’s usage is on track to exceed last year’s usage by 20 percent.

In order to pay taxes with either of these online options, taxpayers should visit the DeKalb County website at www.dekalbcounty.org and click on the blue “Property Tax Payments” button.  Both the E-Pay and SameDayPay links are listed on this page.  You will find it helpful to have your tax bill at hand when making your payment online.

If you have questions about your tax payment, please visit our website at www.dekalbcounty.org or call Treasurer Johnson’s office at 815-895-7112.
